When is the next time there will be a bisque firing? Amd because I’ve slept since getting my initial walk around with Tony … what is the proper procedure for where to put our items for bisque firing?
Once it is bone dry- it goes into the kiln room on the shelf to the East (left as you are facing The pairs of kilns). It’s marked as bisque. Your work should first be completely dry before placing it in there for firing. Moist work in the kiln can cause the piece to explode and damage all the other pieces on that kiln shelf as well.
Tony fires it when there are enough pieces to fill the kiln and he has time to do it. It is a manual kiln and requires the kiln operator to hand you be on site or go to the site to change the settings at specific times during the bisque firing.
He has been trying to fire 1x week lately. Bisque often gets started on Friday evening. (But that can vary)
Also be sure you smooth any rough edges while it is still greenware. A slightly damp cloth works great to gently smooth any rough edges on your piece. It’s easier to smooth as greenware than after bisque firing. Anything in bisque that feels sharp (especially edges) feels even more sharp after glaze firing.
Thank you so much !
Perfect answer!! Thanks!!
