Why is Canadian bacon, not just called ham? I’ve wondered how much a difference there is.

Do Canadians just call canadian bacon,bacon? and what do they call regular bacon?
American bacon is call bacon in Canada. “Real” Canadian bacon is closer to was is called peameal bacon which is a wet cured pork loin.
