Awnings

Im wanting to build some awnings for my house as i it gets quite toasty in the afternoons. My biggest overthinking challenge is what kind of materials would work best? Im welcome to suggestions. Has anyone built awnings before?

I highly recommend Big Duck Canvas they have a very similar fabric to Sunbrella but about half the price.
I have samples of all their fabrics as well.

We installed ourselves a huge awning over our deck on back porch it faces west and the afternoons were brutal our ac struggled. Since we installed we are a lot more comfortable and use less energy to cool. But this does not answer your main question. What to build with! I was super lucky working for kdot I had access to used 4x6 sign post i used for awnings legs and deck frame. I had to buy the 2x6 header boards and the other roof boards. As for the roof its self i use leftover metal from a carport this was used so it had extra holes but it was easy to plug with roofing silicone.
At the end of the day my covered back porch has become one of our favorite places to go. It has seating area grill and hottub lots of flowers it can be made really cute if you are creative.

That stuff we had at the garden party that was kind of messy seemed to help a lot. Don’t know how it would hold up to being out all the time though.
