Tonight’s metalshop safety class was definitely an exciting one…
Before we got too far into the class, the air compressor started to run and soon kicked off the over pressure valve… Fortunately Jimmy was there and able to stop the Tormach before we had to shut off the air compressor.
It looks like the on/off relay may have arked and caused the motor to keep running after the tank reached 130psi. That over pressure valve only kicks off when the pressure reaches 150psi in the tank. There wasn’t a chance that the tank would have exploded, but we really don’t want the machine to keep running if the tank hits that pressure.
Jimmy has repaired the air compressor with the spare contactor we had on hand. I’ll take a look at the one that was pulled off and see if it can be cleaned and put back into service down the line or see if we need to order another spare.
I think this may have just been a wear and tear item, but please make sure you guys are taking the time to cleanup after a project as well as using the ventilation system that sucks out a lot of the soot.
