Acrylic cutting

Hello, I am interested in cutting some acrylic templates, I have seen an interesting use of a standoff and wet paper towel to catch the laser heat on the back side to stop flareup. I am only cutting 1/4 inch. So two questions has anyone used the method? And the second has anyone had any issue with flareup on 1/4 acrylic.

Just watched your link and also a vid on laser cutter flare up. I wasn’t familiar with either and i am planning to cut some acylic. Thanks for sharing and making me aware of it. What I’m going to be cutting will be a max of 3mm. Despite igniting fumes what does flare up do to the acrylic?

It can distort the edge and leave yellow scorch marks. On thin material the air assist should stop it.

I cut acrylic all the time. I use masking tape and lower power and haven’t had any issues.
