I stopped in to replace the disc sander disc tonight and looked at the oscillating spindle sander. This is so depressing.
I will have to make a retainer for the 5/8” and 1/2” spindle. There is currently one on the 1/4” spindle, but it’s a nuisance to have to move it back and forth to the other spindles.
The nut is missing for the 2” spindle, as well as the key. The key isn’t critical, but the nut compresses the PVC bushing to hold the sleeve in place. It should just be a 5/16”-18 LH so I am hopeful I can locate one locally tomorrow. If not, I’ll have to order it.
The PVC bushing for the 1.5” spindle is missing. I looked around a bit, but didn’t see it anywhere. It appears that Jet still sells the bushing in Europe for about $60, but here in the US, we have to buy a complete spindle assembly for $130. The picture on the web makes it hard to tell if this is really the right part, though. I may try to get to the Big Tool Store tomorrow and see what they might have. The Jet is unique so it doesn’t appear that spindles from other machines will work on it.
Assuming I can find a 5/16” nut tomorrow, the sander will be able to be used with 2”, 5/8”, 1/2”, and 1/4” sleeves, all 6” long.
The drum sanders in the toolbox are meant for use in a drill press, not the spindle sander.
