Sadly… Looks like it didn’t really happen… No one at the gate saw any boats come in, and there were a ton of kids swimming in the lap pool area that it was supposed to be in…
I think we can do better…

From the looks of it… Yup… Could have brought in a refrigerator box and won…
Still, I’d love to see what we could come up with in a few weeks. A part of me wants to see there be an award for the most boxy box… We’d probably all need to wear life preservers for the event and keep the boats to be big enough for 1 to 2 people instead of 3.

Do the leads want to discuss it Monday at the leads meeting, to see about making it a light hearted competition between spaces? I assume we need to rustle up some rules?

Another couple of questions we need answers to on this. Will our waiver cover such an event or do we need an additional waiver for this event and what will our insurance say about this.

I’d think a waiver would be wise. Would insurance be an issue if we just waive any liability for MakeICT? The water isn’t part of its property either. Just curious as I’m not well versed in this sort of thing.

I’m working on a list of questions to run by insurance not only on this but a few other things.
I’ll see about sitting down with them this week and see if they would have any concerns beyond wearing life jackets.

It’s sounding like the creek might not be the greatest option…
There also doesn’t seem like there is an open public pool within a couple blocks of MakeICT. Boston Park looks like it had a pool at one time, but that pool is not listed on Wichita’s active city pools.
Has anyone tried wading into the creek to see what it’s really like? Or does anyone have a suggestion for another spot to try floating these craft?
It’s a bit of a drive but maybe Afton? Shouldn’t be an issue as long as we make the crafts recoverable.
This really makes me upset. The poorest part of the city has no pool and no splash pads.
