Prusa 4 Update 26-December-2024

As an update, I am bringing Prusa 4 back over there. This extruder seems to need to be rebuilt, or swapped out. If this were a Creality, Sovol, or Bambu Lab machine, I wouldn’t hesitate in doing it. The Prusa’s extruder assembly is just unnecessarily complex with the number of wires and such that have to be disconnected and reconnected. Even following the Wiki instructions, I am unable to get it even partially disassembled to see what’s going on in there.

I might feel better about trying to repair it if I had someone there with me to show me what I’m doing wrong in attempting to disassemble it, but rather than accidentally disassembling it permanently, I’m going to put it back the way it was and bring it back over to the space.

If someone experienced with them is able to go work on it, and my schedule permits, I’ll be more than happy to go over there and learn, but until that time, it’s likely going to remain offline…

Prusa 4 is operational again. The problem was a piece of filament stuck well in the heat break. No wiring required only some screw removal and a bit of hot air gun.

As a reminder to you and everyone, Don’t take equipment from MakeICT home to work on it, unless the lead and board have both signed off on it.

I’ll show you what I did, if you are ever up here when I am. More or less you take the fans off, undo the motor attachment and take out the hot end then unscrew the heat break. Hit it with hot air, and push/pull the filament out. Reverse the process and it’s good.

Thanks for fixing it and for the instructions. John did have my approval to take the printer home, but we had not contacted the board. We’ll know for next time!

I feel like this should be between the lead and the volunteer who’s fixing the equipment - getting the board involved seems like quite a roadblock to just fix a printer.

But anyway thank you both for fixing this, James I too am very curious where that stuck filament had worked its way into because when John and I were trying to unclog it, we could not get to where it was stuck!
