Ready, set… design!
This image was supposed to be in the original post, so I apologize it never uploaded. The plan is to do a sign similar to this where it is printed directly on a white acrylic and hung between the posts.
Which dimension is width and which is height? If it’s for that frame out by the road, I think we want it to be that exact size?
Are we actually holding people to the linked brand standards? Safe zone, lockup, and all?
Are you prepared to say no, even if you get a few submissions?
Is this urgent enough that it can’t go out in a newsletter cycle? Probably a few dozen read this forum at most. The newsletter goes out to a few thousand.
I like the energy, I just don’t want be people to be excluded if they don’t read the forum.
Also for those designing, consider making your letters 7" or larger; people drive 35 mph on Mt. Vernon and if it’s to read from the road, it needs size.
I updated the original to include width and height.
Please use the logo standards that have already been defined and are available on the wiki at that link. When printed, the logo will be printed with the appropriate colors that are defined in that link.
I’m not completely sure what you mean by ready to say no. If you would like to address this directly, please contact me privately.
It was discussed at the board workshop last night for us to do this as an event for members to become involved and that the forum is an appropriate use of resources for this purpose. While I understand your concern of more people read the newsletter rather than the forum, The forum is one of the resources that MakeICT has added disposal for use in these cases.
If you have any additional concerns, please direct them to me in a private message
Creativity of the artist themselves the whole point I believe. At least that what I would hope for can we leave AI out and see what…The imagination and artistry of the make community brains come up with. I can’t wait to see what we all come up with . HOW FUN!!!
Don’t forget that the deadline for the sign competition is September 1, 2025. Please send any submissions to president@makeict.org to be considered for the project!!
A question arose about the sign design and there was supposed to be a photo that went along with the guidelines.
The design you make and gets approved will be printed onto a sheet of acrylic similar to this sign and placed between the poles in a frame.
While some great designs have come through for other style of signs and I have requested the contractor to consider them, this was the original approved budget.
I have extended the deadline to Sept 10, 2025 to design the sign if you would like to offer a design, please email president@makeict.org
I understand the concern regarding the designs, but asking about the accuracy of a sign is very different. This was a simple question about the space, not about the visual design of the sign itself.
MakeICT has called themselves Wichita’s MakerSpace for many year’s and it is part of the space’s marketing strategy on the website. Below is our Google Business Page:
I wasn’t able to get a sign entry in before the deadline, but I did go out and take measurements, and study the frame. And I came up with a way to add internal illumination to the sign for night viewing, if that’s of any interest to the sign committee.
I was able to vote, I meant I didn’t get a design in before the design deadline. No, I thought we were restricted to re-using the existing frame, if you’re building a new “proper” frame, that’s better, do that.
