Missing Label maker - Electronics/RPT Lab

Last Sunday a Brother label maker was left on one of the benches in the Electronics area, with plans to use it in the immediate future. Sometime between Sunday and Tuesday, it disappeared.

If you happen to know where it went (along with a lot of blank labeling tape), please let me know and I will retrieve it.

Thanks!

Did you check the lost and found in the office, on the wall with the light switch in the bottom northmost cabinet?

I don’t know anything about this but I will be following along closely, please keep us posted.

I did look in the cabinet marked “Lost and Found”. Didn’t see anything there. I’ll go look again next time I’m close to MakeICT

I looked in all the cabinets in the front office and searched the Electronics/RPT lab. No Joy.

No idea on it’s location but I do have one I would be happy to loan.

I find it very disappointing that personal equipment is not safe in our facility. My trust in my fellow MakeICT members, who are supposed to be “Excellent to each other” is shaken to the core. I frequently take personal equipment into the facility that I use for teaching classes and rather than taking it home after every class - which is kind of a hassle - I leave it in the classroom (or in this case the lab).

This incident makes me doubt the safety of my personal possessions. I’m beginning to reconsider leaving anything at MakeICT, or even if I want to continue my association with the organization.

Hi Randy,

I hate to be the jerk pointing to policy, because this is 100% not okay. But we do have a policy regarding personal property, which includes a statement that “Area leads may designate space within their areas for personal storage as part of their area-specific guidelines as stated on their wiki page.”

Otherwise, property left at MakeICT outside of personal storage can’t be guaranteed security.

It seems to me like setting up a specific arrangement to keep your stuff in the area would be the way to go, provided it’s “designated as part of the area-specific guidelines.” Each area has its own standards regarding what property members can leave in it (if anything).

But once again-- this is absolutely not acceptable.

I think that’s an unfair assessment. In an organization of several hundred members, it is unrealistic to think that each and every individual is worthy of that level of trust.

I look at it like leaving a car running while going into QT for a drink. Should I be able to trust that the car will still be there when I come back out? Sure. Do I trust that if I did that, the car would still be there? Nope.

There are very few individuals, if any, who could recognize every member. In other words, there are a lot of strangers that make up MakeICT. Unfortunate as it may be, occasional loss of personal items is a thing that happens.

@Security may be able to help out with this?

Of course it really sucks that this has gone missing. Hopefully someone assumed it was MakeICT property that was in the wrong place and took it to one of the classrooms.

Thanks Asrah,

I’m hoping that’s the case…

But, lesson learned.

I hate painful lessons. As an office supply nerd, I understand your loss. I literally gave my husband a brother label maker as a wedding present. Let me know if I can help. I don’t have a wide variety of tape though, unless purple glitter is high on your list. Good luck and happy making.

There is a label maker in room 3 in the podium. I gave it to the makerspace years ago. Its pretty basic, but I have left it there to use for years. There are also some labels and markers in the same box.

Amazingly, Friday afternoon (June 27), I stopped by to check on something for the 2-way radio group and thought, “I’ll just take one more look.” Guess what?

THERE IT WAS, in the box it had been left in, with all the label tapes, etc. intact.

Whoever found it and put it back, THANK YOU!
