Jointer repair - 2026-03-08

The inserts on the jointer have been replaced or rotated. Somebody appears to have run material through the jointer with debris in it and destroyed multiple inserts then just moved the fence over to avoid those damaged inserts. This does not happen without being notice. Nobody notified anybody about it and it was only discovered today when I was discussing equipment maintenance with another member.

Besides being inconsiderate of other members who may need to use the full width of the jointer, it also damages the aluminum thresholds before and after the head. This requires filing down the newly formed high spots. It’s also dangerous. The remnants of the inserts can further break and fly out of the machine with great force leading up potential injury.

I’m not sure if it’s related to the damaged inserts but the outfeed table was found to be loosened and not level with the cutter head. There is no handle on the lock bolt for the outfeed table. This is some to prevent incorrect adjustment of the outfeed table. The loosening of this bolt required somebody to remove the handle from the infeed table, so it was not an accidental action.

Do not adjust equipment without proper knowledge of how to do so and report damage or accidents so that repairs can be made!

Wow, just wow.
Thank you for repairing the damage.
I’m not at a loss for words, just short on things that can be said in public.

Do we think this was done within the last few weeks?

I honestly don’t know when it occurred. I haven’t used the jointer for a few weeks.

I thought woodshop safety the other day and didn’t notice if the fence was moved. It looked normal to me. Which was on Saturday around noon.
