FYI milkweed imposter

Today while walking around the garden I spied what appeared to be milkweed seedpods but they were on vines on the fence. Those are honeyvine “milkweed”, not a true milkweed, not as good for butterflies, and a highly invasive plant that looks a lot like field bindweed. If you find any similar seedpods on a vine, they should be bagged and placed in the dumpster. From a plant stalk straight out of the ground, far more likely to be real milkweed and desirable.

I’ve also heard it called Japanese Bind Weed.

I never knew the vining type existed. Thanks for the education @Sherry I’ll be on the lookout for it now. I have a lot of native milkweed in my pasture but I’ve never noticed any of the vining type. Is it a relative newcomer to this area or has it been around for years in our area?

It’s technically a native. One that needs no encouragement!
