Please wear appropriate clothing for the class. I encourage the use of PPE, of course. While it is common to find people, myself included, hot work in short sleeves and shorts, it is not a best practice, so for the purposes of encouraging safe hot work, I would like everybody to wear the following if possible.

This class will introduce users to the basics of computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM). We'll use Autodesk Fusion (formerly Fusion 360) https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/overview to design an item and then use the Fusion CAM environment to produce programs that can be used on the various MakeICT CNC machines (laser cutters, ShopBot, 3D printers, CNC Plasma Table). This is intended to be an introductory class, touching on the use of a few of the basic functions in Fusion, geared toward those who have never used a CAD program before. It is not intended for the advanced user. As such, we will not be covering all of the functionality that Fusion brings to the table.
Users are encouraged to bring a laptop with Fusion installed. If you plan to use the CNC Plasma table, follow the instructions on the MakeICT wiki (https://wiki.makeict.org/wiki/CNC_Plasma_Cutter) to set up Fusion with the applicable template and post processor. There may not be time to do this during the class period.

Ceramics - Hand Building - Make a Set of Luminaries

Host: Jennifer Cabala
Register: http://makeict.wildapricot.org/event-6677825Price: MakeICT Members - $50.00
Price: Non-Members - $55.00
Ages: 12 and up
In this hands on pottery class you will make a set of three cylindrical luminaries using the slab method. This will be a 2 session class, unless you elect to have the instructor glaze your piece.
During the first session, you will build your luminaries and carve your own unique designs into the surface.
The second session focuses on glazing and is offered on select days in a relaxed open format. Each session runs within a 2.5 hour window, and you're welcome to attend whichever time best fits your schedule.
After the first session, your piece will remain in the studio to dry (about 4 -5 days) and then bisque fired. Once bisque is complete, it will be ready to glaze. I'll send notification when your piece is ready to glaze and provide the glaze session schedule at that time. If you choose to have me glaze, your finished creations will be ready for pickup in approximately 4 - 6 weeks, depending on drying time and kiln schedules. I'll notify you as soon as your items are ready.
All materials - including clay, tools, glaze, and underglaze are included in the class price.
