Then the class will move to the lathe, in the woodshop, and learn how to use a Spindle Roughing Gouge and a Spindle Gouge. This is a hands on with mounting a piece of wood on the lathe including marking centers, mounting the spindle blank, roughing square stock to round. Then marking out the blank. Finally, begin to turn beads and coves.

There is no charge for either these classes. An Instructor provided Handbook is available and recommended for $20.00 Class members are encouraged to bring a short piece (12 inches or longer) of 2x4. Wear comfortable fitting clothes, comfortable shoes, enclosed toes are recommended, You may wish to wear a smock type top with a turtle type neck and no open pockets or flap pockets.

Class size is limited to 4, since we have very limited lathe availability.

John,
I just joined today with the intention of learning to turn. I’m signed up for the Woodshop Safety class for Thursday. If its OK, since I haven’t had the safety class yet, I would be happy to attend your class tomorrow evening. Brian
