Calendar Discrepancies

Is there some intended difference between the following two calendars? Are they supposed to show the same set of events?

  1. https://makeict.wildapricot.org/Events

  2. MakeICT | Calendar

Some events are listed in (2) but not in (1). For example, tonight’s ARTS MIXR.

(1) only shows events that require registration: classes, orientation, etc. This is automatically generated by the system we use to handle registrations.
(2) shows all events, so things like committee meetings, parties, and other events that don’t need registration will show up there.

Got it, thanks for the explanation Christian.

Perhaps it would be good to sync these calendars as I don’t think most know the backend difference between them. I, for one, have missed events because I was looking at (1) instead of (2).

If syncing is not easily achievable, then perhaps adding a description (label) to the calendar page will help. Something along the lines of: “This calendar only shows events that require registration. To to view a list of all MakeICT events, see <link to (2)>”

I believe (1) is generated by Wildapricot and we can’t add that to it. (2) is what’s on the main website and has something similar above it.

Not easily, no. The suggested text has been added to the WildApricot events page.

As a questions since I thought all references to it were either removed or changed to the calendar a while back: How did you get to that page?

It was used very early on, and there was one remaining reference a year or two ago on the page that had been overlooked.

It’s been several months since I noticed there are two calendars, but if I recall correctly, I just changed the last part of the WildApricot URL from “event-xxxxxxx” to “events” out of curiosity.

I would just look at (2) since all events are listed there (Thats what I do in real life :wink: )

@jameslancaster
The first google result when searching “makeict events”.

Since all links to it were removed, It sounds like the intent is for (1) not to be used/accessible. If that’s the case, perhaps adding a noindex tag to it will be the final nail in the coffin. That will prevent google from including it in search results. Except for people stumbling on this thread now :slight_smile:

The warning Christian added to the Wild Apricot calendar is highlighted in bright yellow so it should get a lot more attention now.
