Recalculate for chickens
Looks like the chickens weigh in slightly less at 80g.
Iām trying to double check the strength of 2x2s, but I think weāll be well within the working limits.
Thereās such variance in lumber strength I think the best youāll be able to do is a worst case scenario. It looks like the one in the video used 2x3 or similar
Good point.
I may have to do some calling around for rough sawn lumber as well⦠It might look a bit more authentic that way.
Okay, that is definitely a slick trick⦠Shouldnāt be too hard to come up with a vinegar and metal shavings to age the wood.
I hadnāt really thought about it when I posted that, but a wooden chassis like that would be really cool too! Time? what of it?
Perhaps we can do a t-shirt cannon and get rid of those t-shirts sitting at the Welcome Center. I have to Google, but I believe those were in use during the Renaissance Period. I suppose it could be disguised as a traditional Renaissance cannon, which did exist. Maybe a cross-bow look to it to keep it portable?
Made some exciting progress tonight!
Weāve made a prototype of the torsion box! ā¦and definitely learned a few things.
- Paracord can create a crazy amount of force that can easily bend and crack a 2x6
- While loading the cord onto a card and then threading the cord in mass through a hole is quick, it does not create an even tension through all of the cords (means the machine would have to be re-tensioned more often)
- It helps with threading to make the holes slightly larger than the width of the torsion arms (ie - a 2in hole would be appropriate for a 2x2 arm)
- The hallways are not quiet big enough to fire medieval siege engines.
- Rubber chickens do scream when launched from a ballista
Attached to hear the death knell of a rubber chicken (headphones recommended)
⦠i envision a balista covered in copper scales and a fearsome dragon mouth belching out bolts⦠and chickensā¦
Well⦠We do know some digital artisans and have some pretty nice 3d printers laying aroundā¦
Great⦠now all I can think of is chickens in armor.
Btw, the prototype does a pretty good job of lobbing chickens outdoorsā¦
So maybe we should see if we can come up with some armor for them. Lol
Chicken flinginā good!
36 gauge aluminum sheet with a copper finish. Possibly use the laser or a Brother Scan and Cut to cut scales fully or partially out of the sheet. I have a roll if youāre interested.
